This ship was designed to be a planetary exploration craft. It features a dorsal hanger deck so shuttles
can depart if it is on the ground or resting partially submerged in water. There is also a hard docking collar with universal
adapters. All exit/entry points are painted red for easy visibility. The main drive is shielded with buffer plates and there
are additional vectored thrust engines
toward the front.
The model measures 17" long, 5" wide and 3 1/2" tall. It is built entirely out of styrene using
the keel and beam core construction technique. The engines are lighted but not the rest of the hull. It is finished in a light
blue with a metallic steel top spine. All doors and hatches are painted red. I wanted to make a ship with some characteristics
of a reptile without resorting to obvious features. The hull is plated in a style similar to an alligator with certain angles
reflecting a musculature of a dinosaur.
The hull sections and underside use embedded forced perspective shapes to give it a feeling of being larger or closer. The
shapes cause the eye to perceive things
as being parallel and from the perspective shots the ship seems more dynamic. The lower sections which is not normally seen
but were made with heavy detailing gives the feeling of shadows, mass and machinery. The Darsosota class is named after an old college project. This is one of my older
builds but one of my favorite designs still.
